The Kano State Police Command said it has in liaison with other security agencies put in place adequate security to ensure the security of life and property before, during, and after the celebrations.
The State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, gave the assurance in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi on Monday.
“In a lecture held today (Monday) at the Police Officers’ Mess Conference Hall, the Commissioner of Police directed all Departmental Heads, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and other Supervising Officers to ensure adequate security at worshipping centres and recreational facilities.
“He also directed them to ensure Round-the-clock visibility patrols, effective traffic control for smooth flow of traffic throughout the state as well and widening of channels of intelligence gathering ahead of the festive periods
“The Command has also cautioned residents to avoid suspicious objects and refrain from carrying unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension when going to worshipping centres. Be vigilant and report any suspicious person, movement, or item to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s Emergency Numbers.
“All forms of unauthorised horse riding are prohibited and the use of fireworks is completely banned throughout the state,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the state police command warned against obstructing highways and disrupting public order as such acts are serious offences under the laws of the country because they can lead to accidents, injuries and property damage.
“The Kano State police command has observed with concern the recent trend of youths blocking roads in Kano, engaging in dancing, washing, singing, and other activities in the name of social media content creation.
“These actions are not only causing unnecessary traffic congestion but also posing a significant risk to public safety.
“The Kano State Police Command hereby warns all individuals and groups involved in these activities to desist immediately. Parents and guardians are also advised to caution their wards against participating in such activities,” Haruna said.
According to him, the Command is committed to maintaining public safety and order and will not hesitate to take necessary measures to address this issue. This may include arresting and prosecuting offenders.
“The Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba advised the public to report any instances of highway obstruction or disruption of public order to the nearest police stations for prompt action,” Haruna added.
