Leicester City’s midfield powerhouse Wilfred Ndidi has secured his place among Nigeria’s Premier League legends, becoming the ninth Nigerian to reach 200 appearances in England’s top flight.
With his achievements, Ndidi joins an exclusive group of Nigerian football players who have had a lasting impact on the Premier League.
He now joins such greats as former Arsenal player Nwankwo Kanu, who is second placed with 273 Premier League games, and Shola Ameobi, who has the most Premier League appearances by a Nigerian with 298.
Ndidi has established himself as a staple in Leicester’s midfield because of his consistency and work ethic. He is currently behind the number of appearances made by well-known athletes like Victor Moses (220) and Victor Anichebe (205).
Ndidi’s ascent up the rankings underscores his influence at Leicester and in the Premier League overall, with Kelechi Iheanacho (196) behind closely in tenth place.
With Ndidi now firmly established in their company, the Nigerian Premier League appearance list now includes John Obi Mikel (249), Alex Iwobi (261), and Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252).
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder can move up even more on this esteemed list.
His 200th appearance in the Premier League is evidence of the influence Nigerian footballers have had throughout the years, spanning several talented generations.
