A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Dr Thomas Ogungbangbe, has said the party would record a victorious outing in the forthcoming local government polls in the state.
Osun State Independent Electoral Commission had fixed February 22, 2025, for the next local government elections in the state and 18 political parties, including APC had indicated interest in participating in the poll.
Ogungbangbe, in a statement reacting to the disclosure by OSSIEC that APC and two other political parties did not properly nominate candidates for the chairmanship posts in about 7 local government areas, obtained in Osogbo on Thursday, urged members of the party not to entertain fear but to approach the poll as a united front.
He said the ruling Peoples Democratic Party should not rejoice yet over the development, as APC’s popularity has been on the rise in the state since the advent of the current administration.
The chairman of, the Aviation Fuel Marketers Association of Nigeria, who called for early preparation for the polls, declared the readiness of APC to win a majority of the Council Areas, preparatory to reclaiming power it lost to PDP in the 2022 governorship polls.
“My party, the APC is not growing weary. Whatever OSSIEC is saying, our party will take it up but looking at the growing acceptance of APC in Osun, we are going to take the majority of the local government areas. We are going to recover landslide victory.
“Party members should not grow weary. We need to start preparing for the poll very early and come up with the right strategies to complement our wide acceptance,” he said.
Commenting on the current economic challenges ravaging the country, Ogungbangbe urged Nigerians to persevere and continue to believe in the capacity of President Bola Tinubu to lead Nigeria to prosperity in no distance time.
When contacted for reaction to Ogungbangbe’s claim, the Director of Media and Publicity of Osun PDP, Oladele Olabamiji, said APC must first work towards rectifying fault in the nomination forms of its candidates before it would dream of winning majority Local Government Areas in the poll.
Olabamiji, also said PDP despite its current popularity among the residents would work hard to win all the local government areas in the election.
He said, “Before APC will dream of winning, the party must first cross the hurdle of improper nomination it is currently struggling with in some local government areas.
“Even though we are the ruling party in Osun, PDP will work hard to ensure that it records victory in all the 30 Local Government Areas in the state. People are with us.”
