The Kaduna State 2023 Labour Party candidates on Sunday rallied support for Sen. Nenadi Usman, the acting National Chairperson of the Labour Party, and urged stakeholders to unite behind her in repositioning the party as a robust opposition force.
The group’s spokesperson, Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi gave the admonition on Thursday via a press statement issued to journalists in Kaduna.
According to him, Nenadi’s emergence as the National Caretaker Committee Chairperson has saved the party from the brink of collapse, asserting that she deserved continued support to lead the party and foster unity.
“If not for her emergence, Nigeria’s electoral bodies would have deregistered the Labour Party, which would not have been able to participate in any of the elections.
Abdullahi, who dismissed some media reports by a splinter group calling for Nenadi’s removal, stated that they’re renegades who have lost grip with the reality.
He highlighted Nenadi’s achievements, citing the Labour Party’s victory in some parts of the country and especially Kaduna State during the 2023 general elections, even as he noted the several historic feats of the party.
The spokesperson while further emphasising the acting chairperson’s commitment to internal conflict resolution, stressed that in spite of the deliberate attempt to destabilise the party using some renegades the party has continued to wax stronger without leaving its relevance.
“Her trajectory as a grassroots politician, rising from a Commissioner, with a good track record of achievements, to her representation as an elected Senator who represented the Kaduna-South Senatorial district and a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and with this synopsis, we are of the view that better times await the LP, with her as our Chairperson,” Abdullahi maintained.
He continued, “We wish to commend the 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti; all serving Senators, House of Representatives members, and other critical stakeholders of the party nationwide for their role in ensuring Sen Nenadi’s emergence.
“Her socio-political engagements in the past will surely manifest in the quality of leadership she will offer to the party. As a seasoned politician, we expect her to advance positive party politics in Nigeria.
“We can not achieve any meaningful democratic dividends in governance without ensuring sound and transparent internal party administration.
“We are assured of robust engagements because of her track records in politics and governance.
“Also, we wish to commend the Kaduna State 2023 Gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Jonathan Asake, for his contribution and pivotal role in ensuring the Labour Party is one.
“We’ll continue to draw from his wealth of experience and also count on his advice to better the party ahead of the Local Government elections.
“Finally, we wish to draw the attention of all members of the Labour Party to dissociate from the led Tafoki Lawal’s faction of the party as both INEC and SIECOM recognise Hon. Yusuf Danbaki as the substantive caretaker committee chairman.
“We, therefore, declare our unsolicited support for Sen. Nenadi Usman as the national leader of our party and Hon. Yusuf Danbaki as our State Party Chairman,” Abdullahi stressed.
