No fewer than 150 youths and women involved in mining within the Osun West Senatorial District have been awarded a collective grant of N7.5 million following their completion of specialised training in modern mining techniques.
The training programme, facilitated by the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Dr Lere Oyewumi, was held in Ikire, Osun State, and conducted by the Mining Cadastre Office, Abuja.
At the grand finale of the training on Saturday, Oyewumi, who represented the Osun West Senatorial Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Adesoye Oyetunde, presented certificates and cash to the beneficiaries. He explained that the grant was intended to support the participants’ businesses.
Oyewumi stated that the training aimed to enhance the participants’ skills, urging them to apply the knowledge gained and the financial support to their work.
“We are empowering 150 constituents involved in mining, quarry work, and building construction. We have trained them to be better equipped and more knowledgeable in their professions.
“Following the training, we are providing each participant with N50,000 to boost their work. The beneficiaries come from across the 10 local governments in the Osun West Senatorial District.
“I encourage the beneficiaries to make good use of this opportunity and the funds provided to help grow their businesses.
“We are aware of the current economic challenges in the country, which is why the money given to the beneficiaries must be used wisely,” Oyewumi said.
